The British weather can wreak havoc on your beautiful modern orangery, but fortunately, you can get it back to its original glory with just a little bit of time and elbow grease.

Clean the windows
If you haven’t had a close look at your Modern orangery windows recently, you may be in for a shock. The effects of winter can turn your usually sparkling windows into a grubby mess.
Fortunately, cleaning your orangery windows is not a difficult task. You can use the same window cleaner that you would use on any other windows in your home or even just a homemade solution of water, white vinegar, and lemon juice.
Make sure that you thoroughly clean both the interior and exterior windows, with the latter requiring a little more effort than the former!
Check the gutters
In the same way as you would check the gutters around the rest of your home, you need to check the gutters and pipes around your orangery.
Over the winter, dirt, leaves, and other debris can quickly build up in your guttering, leading to many problems such as leaks and cracked pipes.
To clean your gutters, make sure that you put on a pair of gardening gloves to protect your hands. You may also want to purchase an extendable gutter cleaner pole so that you can easily clean your guttering without the need for a ladder.
Refresh the paintwork
If your modern orangery has succumbed to general wear and tear and is in need of a bit of a facelift, then now is the perfect time to apply a fresh coat of paint.
Alternatively, if you don’t have time to do this, then a quick wash of your paintwork will also work wonders for the overall appearance of your orangery. Simply use a synthetic brush to apply a mild household detergent and then rinse with cold water.
Clean your roof
Modern orangeries tend to feature one or two roof lanterns, so you need to make sure that you also clean your flat roof and lantern capping after winter.
Again, this can be done using just a simple solution of warm water and a mild detergent.
Do not use heated power washers as these can potentially break the glass.
Wipe down the ironmongery
Hopefully, your orangery’s door handles and locks have been protected using a specialised lacquer. However, they will still need a wipe down after winter.
Avoid any abrasive cleaners or metal polish as these can damage the ironmongery, and instead, use soapy water and a soft brush. For a pristine finish, apply a coat of wax polish.
Ideally, it would be best if you aimed to clean and check over your orangery at least four times a year, as this will enable you to identify any damage or issues before they become too problematic.
